Ioan Gruffudd Biography. Ioan was born in Cardiff, Wales, UK. His parents, Peter and Gillian Gruffudd were educators. He has a brother, Alun, who is two years younger and a sister, Siwan, who is 7 years younger. He attended the Royal Academy Of Dramatic Arts from 1992 to 1995, but was then cast as Poldark in the popular British tv series. Ioan has maintained a successful career in television, hand in hand with his movie career. His unrivalled performances have included Jeremy Poldark in "Poldark" (1996) (TV), Horatio Hornblower in "The Hornblower" (1998-onwards), and Jesus in "The Miracle Maker" (2000). 2001 saw Gruffudd showing off his American accent in the critically-acclaimed cinematic retelling of the bloody Battle of Mogadishu. ( Black Hawk Down ) The film cast him alongside several other up-and-comers such as Orlando Bloom and Eric Bana. Following roles in smaller fare like Happy Now and This Girl's Life, Gruffudd was cast opposite Clive Owen and Keira Knightly as Sir Lancelot in director Antoine Fuqua's gritty King Arthur.
